What's new in Recito

Every release, newest first. The App Store only ever shows the current version's notes, so this is the whole history in one place.

  • Easier to see what's switched on: Preview and the tool buttons on the Record screen now light up solid when active, instead of a faint tint that disappeared over the camera.

  • If your script is in a language your device cannot recognise offline, Recito now says so before you start — and the script keeps scrolling at the speed you set instead of stopping.
  • Speech permission is asked for when you tap Record or Preview, not the moment the screen opens.
  • Turned speech recognition off by mistake? The notice now has an Open Settings button.
  • The Voice switch shows when it is actually listening, on the record screen and in the recording timer.
  • If recognition fails repeatedly, the script is handed back to the speed slider instead of retrying silently.

  • Your script now follows your voice. Start reading and it keeps pace with you — speed up, slow down, pause to think, and the words stay where your eyes are. There is no speed to set and nothing to hold.
  • The word you are reading is marked as you go. Choose whether it sits at the top of the band or in the middle, next to the Voice switch on the record screen.
  • Recognition happens entirely on your device and never leaves it. The language comes from the script itself, so there is nothing to choose, and the app says plainly when your device cannot recognise it.
  • Scrub with your finger mid-take and it picks up from where you scrolled, not from where it had got to.
  • Turn it off for a single take with the Voice switch, or entirely in Settings.

  • The script now follows Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size. Set a larger text size and the script you read and edit gets larger with it.
  • With the keyboard up, the takes strip and the Record button get out of the way so the script has the screen — the fix people using Display Zoom or a large font needed most. Record moves into the keyboard bar next to Done.
  • Tapping Create script and going straight back no longer leaves an empty script in your list, and any already there are cleared. A script with a recording but no words is kept.
  • New Folder is now available from the empty state, so folders no longer need a script to exist first.
  • Italian: the whole app and the App Store listing.

1.3.9 · September 4, 2026

  • Turn your phone sideways and the script turns with it. In landscape you can move and resize the teleprompter the way you already can on iPad, and where you put it is remembered.
  • Reviewing takes: Save to Photos and Delete now sit at opposite ends, and the arrows moved to the edges of the screen where your thumbs already are.
  • Takes waiting on a decision are marked DRAFT, and the one you are watching shows its number clearly.
  • With no time limit set, the ring around the shutter shows your parts again.

  • Record for as long as you need. The length picker has a new "No limit" setting alongside the timed ones, and it is free for everyone.
  • Before a long take, Recito now tells you roughly how much recording your device has room for — while you can still do something about it.
  • If storage runs low mid-take, the recording stops cleanly and keeps what you have rather than failing at the end.
  • Saving a take that will not fit now says so plainly, instead of blaming the watermark.

  • Saved takes now carry a badge showing they are in Photos, so you can tell at a glance what is backed up and what is not.
  • Your takes are ordered by when you saved them, instead of when they were recorded.
  • Swipe left or right to move between takes. Save has moved out from under your paging finger, so you can no longer hit it by accident on your way past.
  • The watermark on free-tier videos is clearer and sits properly in the corner of the frame.
  • The app now appears as Recito. The first Mac release installed under an internal name — this build corrects it in place, so you will not end up with two copies.
  • Saved takes carry a badge showing they are in Photos, and your takes are ordered by when you saved them rather than when they were recorded.
  • Drag left or right across a take to move between them. Save has moved out from under that gesture, so you can no longer hit it by accident.
  • The watermark on free-tier videos is clearer and sits properly in the corner of the frame.

  • Recito now runs on iPad — full screen, in landscape or portrait, with the teleprompter sized to read from across the room.
  • Choose your recording quality before you shoot: 1080p for everyone, 4K with Pro.
  • Playback now shows your whole frame, exactly as it was recorded — nothing cropped away.
  • A simpler review after each take: keep it, discard it, or just close and come back later. Your takes stay attached to the script they came from.
  • See what your unsaved takes are using, and clear them in one go, under Settings → Storage.
  • Video stays upright when you turn your device mid-shoot.
  • On iPad, move and resize the teleprompter box: drag it anywhere, or pull a corner to resize.
  • In Settings → Experiments: choose which microphone records.

  • Interrupted by a call? Your take now pauses instead of quietly recording nothing — everything you'd already recorded is kept, and the prompter is still on your word.
  • Takes recorded in several parts now always save complete — a part with no sound could previously go missing from the finished video.
  • Your speed and text size are remembered between takes, so you set your pace once.
  • The pace coach is accurate on takes you stop partway through.
  • Front-camera video is now consistent from your very first take.
  • More of the app speaks your language.

  • Pause and resume a take. The prompter freezes on the word you stopped at, so you carry on from exactly there — and you still get ONE video.
  • The record button now pauses. Tap the checkmark to finish your take.
  • Recorded a bad bit? Delete just that part and record it again — the script rewinds with it.
  • The ring around the record button shows the parts of your take.
  • Adjust speed while paused, and hold "Preview speed" to try it before you carry on.

  • Recito now speaks your language — the app and the App Store listing are available in French, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

  • Your screen stays awake while you record — Auto-Lock no longer dims the display or cuts a take short mid-script.
  • Clearing takes off a script is easier to find — tap Edit above your takes to remove a draft or a saved link.

Dates before 1.3.7 are given by month. They are taken from when each release was finalised rather than the day Apple published it, and a month is the honest precision for them.
