Free online teleprompter

Paste your script, press Start, and read. It scrolls at the pace you set, on a phone, an iPad or a computer — no sign-up, and your words never leave this page.

Hi, I'm Alex, and in the next minute I want to show you why we built this. Most of us freeze the moment a camera turns on. We know what we want to say, but the words come out in the wrong order, and the take gets longer every time we try again. So write it down first. Keep it short, and read it out loud once before you record. Then put the words right under the camera, start the scroll, and talk to the lens as if it were a friend across the table. That is all a teleprompter is: your own words, exactly where your eyes already are.
Speed 140 words per minute

Your script is kept in this browser only — never uploaded. Keyboard: Space starts and pauses, ↑ ↓ change the speed, F full screen.

How to read it without looking like you are reading

Put the words under the camera

Drag this window to the top of the screen, right below your webcam, and read at the line near the top. The closer the words are to the lens, the more your eyes look at the viewer instead of at a script.

Set the pace slower than you think

A natural speaking pace is around 140–160 words per minute. Start a little slower, then nudge it up with the arrow keys once you settle in.

Write it to length first

The read time under the script box tells you how long the take will run. A 30-second clip is about 75 words; a minute is about 150.

Using a mirror rig?

Turn on Mirror and the text flips, so it reads the right way round in a beam-splitter teleprompter.

When you want the recording too

A browser tab can show the words; it cannot hold your place while you record. Recito does the whole take on iPhone, iPad or Mac: the script scrolls right under the camera lens while it records, you can pause and carry on from the same word, and the finished video saves to Photos. It is free to start, with no account.
